Time Period: 1980s
Material: 9ct Yellow Gold
Theme: Talisman
This lovely design depicts a man carrying a small child safely across a river on his shoulders during a storm. The child was Jesus Christ and the story goes that he was incredibly heavy so when the man asked why Jesus explained that he was actually carrying the weight of the world on his shoulders. The man was St Christopher and he is now the patron saint of travellers. These days the design is still commonly given as a talisman to keep you safe on your journey and as an angel to watch over you. A lovely thought if you have a loved one about to embark on a voyage.
The pendant is 23mm in diameter and fully hallmarked. The maker GJ Ld is Georg Jensen and it was assayed at 9ct gold in London in 1981. The weight is 4.40g.
